According to the latest news article on News24.com, headlined, “Skills gap strands SA businesses as jobs go unfilled.” South African businesses are in crisis mode, due to the severe shortages of relevant skills found the current job market. One of the major lacks are found in the IT industry, namely with Java Programmers.
The article also refers to the government’s scarce skills list that contains about 25 pages of scarce skills in South Africa and it includes 37 different kinds of trained workers; Software Developers are on that list.
One of the main reasons why we are currently experiencing this “gap” between businesses (required skills) and graduates (available skills), according to the News24 article, is South Africa’s educational system. The article supports this theory by making the following statement; “South Africa’s inadequately educated workforce is the third-most problematic factor for doing business in South Africa.”
